Recycling is the process of taking a product and using all or part of it to make something new. Recycling reduces the amount of trash in landfills. Making new products out of recycled ones also saves us from using energy to make products from all new materials. Recycling can take place at your home, school or anywhere that you see a bin with the recycling symbol.
- School Recycling. What is being recycled at your school? Work with students in your school to come up with a plan to collect and recycle items used throughout the school day and at lunch. Items may include things like plastic water bottles, cans, and paper.
- Recycle Patrol. When you or adults in your family are shopping, help them look for recyclable symbols on products that you buy. Also look for products that have the least amount of packaging to cut down on waste. If you are not sure whether the packaging is recyclable or not, consider choosing another item.
- Create Unique Places for Plants to Grow. Things like yogurt containers, old boots, teacups, and mugs make great places for plants to grow. Before throwing these things away, consider using them to sow seeds or create unique planters. These make great gifts!
