Over time, the actions of a few individuals can pollute our water resources. Imagine something harmful that you would never
consider drinking, like oil, being spilled on the ground. Water can easily pick up that pollutant and carry it down into the groundwater or through the watershed
to a lake or a river. This contaminated water will affect all the people and the environment along the way.
One small bit of pollution may not seem like too much of a problem. But there are more than 10 million people living in Michigan and we all create a little bit of waste each day. You can imagine how quickly that adds up and can create big problems!
But just like our pollution adds up, so can our efforts to keep our water and our environment clean.
Water is a part of our environment and everyone has the responsibility of keeping this precious natural resource as clean as possible for the benefit of people today and tomorrow. This is what environmental stewardship is all about.
